How does fueling and cleaning work?
  • Your boat will have been fueled and cleaned by the previous user.
  • At the end of your use, you are responsible to fill the gas at the Gateway Marina pumps (Regular unleaded).
  • You are also responsible to remove all refuse and wipe down the vessel.
  • With prior notice, HIWA staff is available to clean and fuel,  however, a fuel charge and convenience fees apply
Are all season pass holders trained and is training available?
Yes, we provide unlimited training and orientation:
Each season pass holder will receive an orientation that will include the following:
  • Digital access and print copy of Idaho boating rules and safety video.
  • Introduction to the Marina, parking, traffic flow and Marina Etiquette
  • Passenger introductions to location of all safety gear,
  • Passenger Roles and Responsibilities
  • Passenger Safety
  • Cleaning protocol and products
  • Captains – training on lake rules and rules of right away.
  • Captains – Basic maintenance to be aware of to notify maintenance staff
  • Captains – Training in driving, parking, properly securing the boat and towing
You have unlimited access to orientation services. Requests for additional training are encouraged.
Captains (Operators)
  • Two people of the same immediate family/household  are permitted to operate the boat only after they have been adequately trained during orientation.
Why is a season pass better than owning a boat?
The short answer is boat ownership is labor intensive and costly,  A season pass is far more affordable and hassle free for the reasons listed below.
  • Winter Storage – Owning a boat requires winter storage
    • which is most often a paid storage a facility- Several thousand dollars
    • Paying for a tarp wrap for outside storage – which needs to be monitored in heavy snow and is environmentally wasteful
    • Private garage storage which can render other toys, vehicles and storage items without room.
  • Summer Moorage – Boat Slips on Lake CDA are difficult to find and expensive to own, The convenience of your premium slip next to the Gateway C-Store is valued at $3000+
    • Obviously launching a boat for every use is an option but trailer parking can be a hassle and often reduces owners from utilizing their investment.
  • Maintenance, Winterization and Summarization
    • Regular oil changes, and general wear and tear maintenance is monitored and conducted by HIWA staff
    • Our Mechanic provides a premier winterizing and summarizing service which would cost a private owner hundreds of dollars.
  • Boat Ownership payments and depreciation
    • HIWA has been in business for 19 years and has always revolved its fleet to keep high quality newer vessels for its customers.
    • To purchase this quality of pontoon you would assume a payment or opportunity cost of $75,000 tied up in the vessel.
    • Depreciation far outpaces the investment of ownership, however with the Season Pass program we are able to renew the fleet and provide consistent quality year after year at a fraction of the cost.
  • Insurance
    • You will still have the ability to purchase insurance from our third party provider.  However the issuance will be cheaper than private ownership.
    • The reason your rental insurance can be offered cheaper is that HIWA insurance dually covers the vessel.
  • AAA  That’s right Triple A Service
    • Should you experience any difficulties on the water you have the peace of mind knowing that you have someone to call.   Our staff is available 7 days a week and can provide assistance.
    • Issues we often remedy quickly – Damaged prop, Dead Battery, Out of Gas, Rope in the prop, Lost or damage accessories (ropes, ski flags, towables, life jackets)
    • We are committed to helping you quickly return to enjoying your day on the water.  And at the very least can get you back to shore quickly and safely while we assess the issue.
  • Unforeseen Mechanical Failure
    • We often have boat owners that rent from us because their boats had a mechanical failure and either the service or the parts are not available until the end of the season.
    • Our mechanic is on hand and can often remedy mechanical failures in less than 48 hrs. The cost of “act of god” mechanical failure is at the expense of HIWA.
    • In the event that a Mechanical event lasts longer than 48 hours HIWA has a large rental fleet that can be accessed to keep season pass owners on the water.
  • Customer Care
    • It’s comforting to know that a HIWA staff member is always available to greet you in person and help your party board vessel and provide a seamless departure.
    • Also available to help provide additional services, advice or consultation over the phone 24/7
  • Training
    • If you are new to boating it can be a little intimidating learning to captain a vessel, rules of the water way and safe conduct for passengers on board.
    • For the last 19 years HIWA has gained a tremendous amount of experience in training renters as well as employees new to the water.   We can help you understand common mistakes and how to avoid them.   You will be boating like a pro in no time.
Why should I purchase a season pass rather than just rent as I go?
  • Owning a season pass increases the frequency of getting on the water.  With the cost behind you and unlimited access ahead, Season pass holders have much more frequent use.
  • Though the season pass has time slots for reservations it is far more leisurely to utilize a portion of a time slot, or for the purpose of boating to access other marinas for lunch or dinner and to do this more frequently with unlimited access.
  • Access to after dark, Season Pass customers can be trained night navigation and our insurance will allow season pass holders to navigate after dark.
  • Purely financials; The break even point is 7 days,  If your projected use is below 7 days then the rental option is far better suited for your needs.
  • Renting does provide the same great service and is a wonderful option for infrequent use throughout the season.
Am I permitted to bring different guests throughout the season?
  • Entertain as many different guests as you would like.
  • Only limited by the passenger capacity and or weight limit of the vessel
  • Orientation for passengers and guests is available throughout the season.
  • Drivers or Captains are limited to two in a season and must be from the same household.
How do the reservation units work for Ski Boat or Waverunners?
  • If you are a Platinum (6 uses) or VIP (12 Uses)  you are permitted to use your 4 revolving reservation units to book a Ski boat or up to 2 waverunners.
  • A Ski boat, Pontoon, or Waverunners may not be reserved in conjunction with each other through the season pass.  One boat at a time or up to two waverunners.
  • You may utilize a ski boat or waverunner rental up to 6 or 12  uses respectively  throughout the season.  You are still held to a cap of 4 units of reservations at any one time.
  • Reserving a ski boat or waverunner will render the pontoon unavailable for other pass holders during that time slot.
How does unlimited access to Paddleboards and Kayaks Work?
  • You may reserve up to two kayaks or paddle boards in advance without affecting your reservation units.
  • You may utilize more than two kayaks or paddle boards if they are available for same day use.
  • Kayaks and paddleboards may not be transported to other bodies of water.
  • Guests of members may use paddle boards or kayaks in conjunction with member usage.
How do Cancellations Work?
  • You may cancel and rebook using your 4 units hassle-free with no penalty up to 5 days prior to a reservation.
  • Units that are canceled within five days of a reservation will not be available for rebooking until five days after that reservation has passed.
  • Severe weather cancellations are permitted hassle-free.
Are there prohibited uses?
  • Season pass holders are not permitted to trailer the boat to another boat launch or lake
  • Not Permitted to tow more than one towable behind the boat at any one time.
  • Not permitted to conduct boating in a way that earns a boating citation
  • Operator is not permitted to be under the influence of Drugs and Alcohol
  • Only Season Pass holders that were trained by HIWA staff to operate the vessel and assigned to the vessel are permitted to operate.
  • Only cleaning products approved by HIWA are permitted, many cleaning products are harmful to the longevity of the vessel and non-approved cleaning products are prohibited.
  • Pets are not permitted on the vessel
  • Operators and passengers must follow all applicable boating safety regulations and navigation laws as set forth by the coast guard, Idaho boating and safety and Kootenai parks and waterways.
Violations
  • Prohibited Uses may result in forfeiture of the season pass.
Insurance
  • HIWA holds a liability policy and coverage on the vessel
  • HIWA policy does not extend coverage to season pass holders for damage or liability
  • HIWA will provide a third party insurance agency for season pass holders to obtain coverage
Damage and Maintenance
  • Season pass holders are responsible
    • taking photos before and after their rentals to document conditions
    • immediately reporting any damage, common damage to look for will be taught at orientation
    • Monitoring the gauges and reporting anything outside the normal ranges of operation
    • Cleaning the vessel in broom swept condition and securing the boat safely at the end of their use
    • If damage occurs pass holders are responsible for the cost of the damages. HIWA will work through your third party agent.
  • HIWA is responsible for
    • Winterizing, Summerizing, and Storage
    • Deep Clean, Waxes, and Polishes
    • All repairs will be conducted by HIWA and HIWA subcontractors
    • Regular Oil Changes and other manufacturer recommended services
  • In the event that damage or maintenance is prolonged and interrupts seasonal use.
    • HIWA will seek to remedy access for season pass users by utilizing the regular rental fleet based on availability, and or seek to find other subsequent means to provide a boat while the primary vessel is under maintenance.
    • If a Season Pass holder damages a vessel through negligence, HIWA does not have an obligation to provide another vessel to that season pass holder.
How does the payment schedule work and are there additional fees?
  • Payment Schedule:
    • Half down payment
    • The remaining amount will be billed in monthly payments.
    • Monthly payment determined by purchase date and amortized to be paid in full by Aug 1st
  • Additional costs
