Planning a Day on Lake Coeur d’Alene

Essentials Checklist

Make the most of your lake day by coming prepared!
  • Sunscreen & Sunglasses – Protect yourself from the sun.
  • Water, Drinks & Snacks – Stay hydrated and energized.
  • Towels & Swimsuits – Be ready for a dip in the lake.
  • Restroom Stops – Plan ahead; know where restrooms are available.
  • Clothing Layers – Temperatures can change throughout the day.
  • Evening Cooldown – Bring an extra layer if you’ll be out past sunset.

Navigating Lake Coeur d’Alene

  • Lake Traffic – Most boaters travel north to south between Coeur d’Alene and Harrison. Stay aware and watch blind spots.
  • Swimming & Water Sports – The deep bays offer the best spots for water activities away from the main channel.
  • Wind & Water Conditions – The southern end of the lake tends to be calmer, especially on windy days. Check wind direction for the smoothest ride.
  • No Wake Zones – Be courteous near private docks and shorelines.
  • Best Time for Water Sports – Mornings generally offer the calmest waters; early start accommodations available upon request.

Swimming & Water Sports

  • Safety First – Always wear a life jacket, even when swimming.
  • Swimming Stops – Pull into a calm bay, turn off your motor, and enjoy a swim around the boat (no need to anchor).
  • Recommended Swim Breaks – Cool off with several short stops throughout your trip.
  • Beaches with Moorage – Visit Coeur d’Alene, Carlin Bay, and Harrison (beaching boats on the rocky shoreline is not allowed).
  • Water Sports Spots – Choose a large bay away from the main boating channel to enjoy skiing, wakeboarding, or tubing.

Explore the Full-Service Town of Harrison

Dock at Harrison’s Free Public Moorage and enjoy:
  • Eateries & Shops – Grab a bite, browse local shops, or indulge in coffee and ice cream.
  • Grocery Store – Pick up extra supplies.
  • City Park & Beach – Relax lakeside, swim, or rent a bike to explore the 72-mile Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes.
  • Saturday Summer Concerts – Free live music in the park from 2 PM – 5 PM.
  • Free Parking – Convenient access for quick restroom or meal breaks.

Where to Eat on the Lake

Pick A Scenic Park

  • Mowry Park – Peaceful, shaded picnic tables with nearby restrooms.
  • Harrison City Park & Beach – Lively waterfront spot with tables and a sandy beach (live music on Saturdays!).

  • Admire stunning waterfront homes along the way.

Stop at a Secluded Cove
